The death of Death Row Records?
You all know their music well. TuPac. Snoop. Dre. They are the fathers of modern hip hop. And now their label is no longer theirs.
Death Row Records, the label that released albums by Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre, was just auctioned off for a mere $24 million.
New York-based Global Music Group Inc is now the owner of Death Row, including the back catalog and current artists contracts. The independent label now has ownership of many classic albums including Dr. Dre's "The Chronic," Shakur's "All Eyez on Me" and Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle."
In it's heyday in the mid-1990s, Death Row sold tens of millions of records. But since, it has collapsed in debt and mismanagement.

I'm not surprised. Death Row hasn't been doing much of anything since Pac passed (none that I've noticed, anyway). It's always been quiet and filled with court cases and scandal. Better they get rid of the company than keep it around, unless Global Music Group Inc. is going to decide they're NOT going to hang artists out of windows! HA!
Stay up y'all,
Nimbus The General

I remember back in the day when a lot of people thought Dre was crazy for leaving Death Row and starting Aftermath.
Its funny how things work out.
