More From WeMix

This is matt again.  Been reading the blog posts - good bad and ugly.  We love the passion and the feedback, so keep it coming.  if we don't hear from you we can't make this place any better.

A few quick thoughts and ideas:

1  Perception is reality.
If people out there think WeMix is a scam, or that we're not working hard enough, we need to hear it and we need to respond.  All I can say is, we have never charged artists a dime for anything at the site.  Lots of sites out there are doing that... there's a fee to get your song "analyzed", whatever that means... or a charge to set up an account to sell music.  Not here.

2  WeMix is a partnership.
Our end of the deal is simple:  we will provide as many opportunities as we can for new artists to elevate their careers and put a little $ in their pockets, even if we can't afford $25,000 advances like some people expect.  But artists need to work at it too!  You can't expect everything to happen over night.  Even if you don't win a contest, or even if someone else has more plays at WeMix, that doesn't mean we are giving up on you.  So please don't give up on us.  Try another contest, try building more fans - cause next time you might just win that shot.

3  There's more coming.
For real.  In the next few weeks we are launching at least 3 new contests and competitions with real upside and opportunity.  We're also going to launch WeMix distribution channels at several big websites with a chance to get ringtones, photos, and videos out there - and to promote your music to bigger audiences.

There might not be a whole lot of money in it up front - for you or for us.  But we're giving you the chance to build your fan base, expose your talent to new audiences and collaborate with each other.

Most of all, we're giving you respect and a bigger slice of the pie than anyone else.

So hang with us. Give us some time, and see what happens.

Er umm.. I'm slightly perplexed by all this... let me just say that if you were truly gifted with musical talent, then what you get out of it shouldn't matter... it's about what the people get out of it of whom you should be doing it for... second of all, I would loooove to get paid for my ish, but if someone steals my idea, song, lyrics, whateva! then it will fall back on them somehow... and those of us who do this on a serious tip do it based on the fact that we have faith God is leading us to do it... so we have enough faith to know that God will protect, not only us personally, but our music as well... whether you put it on Wemix or any other site... may not mean much to you "Anonymous donor of insight and opinion", but I pray you grow in faith and realize that music is not a means of instant fame and riches... it is more to do with the struggle... out of struggle comes the greatest songs in the world... it is out of struggle that most hymns were written and documented... it is from this history that music has led us to a place where we have the ability to change lives with our music... this is why you should be doing it in the first place ya dig? So relax and enjoy yourself here... Wemix (as well as any other site) is what you make of it... so make it a joyful experience already and send me a damn beat that I can put a great song too lol... lyricalministry@yahoo.com... PEACE! God's Love - G

Any change that is oriented to make things better for us users, is good change! The specifics matter not. There is always time for upgrades as long as the initial mission stays important to Luda & Matt. Good job Matt for keeping the site moving forward. Keep it coming.

On Anonymous and the MC's thing and contests, I hear you and agree on contest because SCB is not a rapper, but we must all remember that this site has more than rappers and Hip Hop artists on here, and contest are cool but not necessarily the way to get ahead, unless you can immediately follow that contest win by executing your next move within a timely manner. That may not be the current reality and focus that people see becuase they're in hip hop, but there are some seriously talented songwriters and singers bursting to get shine, and their path is extremely expensive and needs to be strategic. A Singer/songwriters path has to be national. Our budget for "SCB" Charles Brandon needs to hit 1.2 million to ensure a Gold Record at 500k in sales. That's serious cake, and many artists though good cannot recoup this type of investment. MCs have to get their props first in their regional scene, then work their way out. Too much local/regional exposure for a singer can kill their career as they become side shows, opening acts and club pegged singers. I'm always banging away at Bex and WeMix to check my artist. They are probably sick of me, but because I know in short time "Charles Brandon" is going to kill the R&B game, I keep asking for feedback and a collab. We should all do the same, not because Wemix is the end all and be all, but because it has injected itself into industry as a tool to be recognized and valued. It has done this successfully! We must all keep the site an active place for promotion by using it to its fullest! Now here's my plug. Come Check out "SCB" Charles Brandon. In a few weeks we'll be doing interviews and making the national rounds, but we strategically started here at wemix because of its mission and focus to be a vesel for unsigned artists on their grind. As of now I cannot mention wemix in our interviews because we're not on the music folks in wemix's favorite list. I've said that's wemix's loss. But for all those artists who think this site is still not working for them becuase they're not the favorite son, I say get a bigger agenda and keep on your grind! Wemix is probably the best place to start your career and I love it for what it is. And at Crack Corn Music we see all the grea talent, and so do the other managers, producers and A&R reps whi check this site often. I know I'd definitey sign a few artists on here. Phokuz is definitely one of my favs, and deserves all the attention he gets. And if he's listening; I'll sign you tomorrow! Did you hear that wemix! And that's why this is the greatest site on the web for new artists and those in the industry!

Keep banging away wemixers...Can U "Keep Up"...check us out and our new joint "Crash & Burn" remember...we love to collab!

I see you Bizz, and I appreciate the support fam. It's returned likewise. I don't message people on WeMix unless this is the only way to get in touch with them. You're on my myspace page, and I'd prefer to connect with people like that, for the simple fact of all the clutter on a page. I mean, when someone leaves a comment like "Diz song iz da shyte" on a Video Bio, you know they're only advertising.

I ain't knockin' other websites, however no other website I've been on yet has given me exposure, and near wins in contests. I mean, if I wanted to pay to be on a website I wouldn't be on this one. But I barely have the money for studio time when I can get it, so why would I want to pay to put a song on the internet? I can do it for free and try to hustle myself like that.

Stay up Biz, you doin' big things as well fam.

Thus, I DUB ANOTHER ARTIST FOR INTELLEGENCE ONCE AGAIN...NIMBUS THE GENERAL. IVE BEEN LISTENING TO YOUR STUFF FOR QUITE A WHILE NOW AND I NEVER LEFT A COMMENT ON YOUR PAGE FOR THE SAME REASON YOU MENTIONED ABOUT PPL CLUTTERING YOUR PAGE WITH PROMOTION SENTENCES FOR THEIR OWN SHYT, I FELT YOU WOULDNT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE MY COMMENT UNDER ALL THAT RUBBISH. BUT YEA, I SALUTE YOU MY DUDE..ALL THE REAL SATISFIED WEMIXERS ARE FINALLY COMING INTO THE LIGHT, PROPS MAN. D-Bizz OH NOOO!

I've been reading the back-and-forth between Matt and anonymous. All I can say is anonymous is wrong on many points and uneducated about what this website is about.

Yes, other websites give more money, take a fee, or do things different than what WeMix is doing, that's what makes this website unique. I've entered 3 of the 4 competitions that have so far been on this site. Out of the 3 competitions I've placed at least 2nd in each competition, and the 3rd isn't finished yet. There's youtube videos of Ludacris and Torri Hunter listening to the 5 finalists' music before picking a winner.

I admit I lost my luster with this website because things have been slow, not to mention being frustrated with everyone only advertising their music in comments (let's be real, if you're not going to listen to the music you're leaving a comment on, don't visit the page). But I'm seeing things pick up now. I've been on this website nearly from the time it started, and I can tell you that they've done plenty enough for me. I've got music on plenty of websites, I don't make this my only choice, however this is the best one for me so far.

So take all that noise somewhere else man, it's not wanted. If you feel we're wasting our time, why try to keep everyone off the site? You ever heard of letting people learn from their mistakes? You can lead a horse to water, but can't make it drink? If we feel this is the place for us, nothing you say is going to change that man.

Stay up,
Nimbus The General

Anonymous...You see y some ppl gatta BACK HAD SLAP A.K.A SNOOP DOGG A HOE? its stupid comments like yours that leaves them no choice! you are sooooooo stupid dude! get off this site dude. your a disgrace to this wemix community...and i dont even know why matt and bex are even tolerating yo hatin azz. SHOW YOURSELF so they can deal with you!..y u gata hide ur identity? you must be out your noggin man. GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE disrespectin wemix like that, we dont need ppl like you apart of this site..the hell outta here. D-Bizzle OH NOOOOO!

More good feedback, thanks anonymous!

WeMix is not a sales facilitator. We are offering creative opportunities, plain and simple. Yes - if we record a song together, or if we license a song together, we're going to share in those profits with the artist. that's it. Nothing up our sleeves.

There was no snarky intention to my posting - just a simple fact that we can't offer large advances like songwriting competitions that have big backers and have been around for years.

Hopefully we'll get just as big so we can do the same thing and bump our prize money. But just because we can't do that TODAY doesn't mean we can't offer help, assistance, and real opportunities to new artists.

Lastly - at WeMix songs ARE analyzed by Grammy-winning artists and producers. Ludacris is one of them. Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park is another. There will be many more artists coming in to do the same. We don't charge for this service, this mentoring, this collaborative opportunity. All we ask is for a share of the back end if we make a song together.

Of course, some will probably say that Ludacris and Mike aren't REALLY listening to songs or analyzing music, or coming in to the studio to record with WeMix artists.

All I can say is, on that point you are dead wrong and we look forward to sharing these new songs with you as soon as we make them.

Anonymous,

I get what you are saying, but every site makes their money somehow. If you just want to tell everyone here about other sites that can do things for free, thats great, maybe they could set up a forum or something.

My point is, Wemix is not saying that they are the only ones that can do what they do. If you are serious about your music, then the individual needs to be the one to find all of the other places in addition to Wemix. You cannot rely on one site to make you big, get you 100,000 bux, etc.

I'm not ass kissing here. The first place I put my music up was the old mp3 site which was quite a while ago. So many sites have come and gone. Some were and are straight up scams, some are very legitimate. I think again the point is, there are the potential for some good opportunities here, and it's the artists responsibility to determine if they are interested in whether the opportunity is right for them if they do win a contest...people need to read the complete rules, and understand what they are reading.

Again.....to make a living off of something you love, it still takes a ton of work. No matter what, it is not handed to you.

I respect everything your point of view, and you have some valid info.

peace...

I would think you have more satisfied users than not...this site has great opportunities as a free site. It now seems that you plan to have more interaction with the members which is also a great thing, as the site will now evolve.

The changes will probably now allow us to network together better as artists as well.

It's good to know that everyone has an opportunity, not just those with the most plays, as those can be easily manipulated with various stuff around the net.

I look forward to all the new opportunities, and do say to my fellow wemixers, work hard at what you do, and always learn. Thanks for the great site wemix...

I think you're response to my mentioning the songwriting competition was off and a little snarky. I didn't mean it to say artists on this site should get $25,000 advances. However, if you are actually talking about signing someone from here let's be honest, they're going to expect some type of advance and it should be on par with what they're truly worth. I've seen some truly amazing artists on this site who I just don't see them signing with you guys unless you offered something truly on par with what they could be offered. It says in the fine print that you have "Right to first negotiation". But, what if you've got an artist who's not looking for that record deal, but a distribution deal. People can knock CDs and Vinyl all they want, but they are still of value if the music is good and artists like Jack Johnson who have distribution deals still sell. If WeMix is trying to compete with the majors and offer the same deals then it needs to be able to offer pressing and distribution just like the majors otherwise that artist is still going to need to get physical copies out. The International Songwriting Competition grand prize money isn't an "advance" it's simply the prize for winning a very prestigious competition. No offense, but I don't think WeMix competitions can stand up to the level of competitions like ISC and the Independent Music Awards which are world renown and recognized by millions of people. It's not a service to get your song analyzed, it's an opportunity to have your song evaluated by Grammy-winning songwriters, producers and professionals. Judging by some of the comments people give to songs on this site, I don't really see how that's helping when most of them are just advertising themselves or just saying "that's hot!". I just think you should be realistic about how much WeMix is going to really help people. You guys may not be charging a fee to sell music, but you're definitely going to take a slice of the pie somewhere and there's a lot of advertising on here about Luda, even this very blog. The reason people want this blog to change is because there is a lot of comments on the web about WeMix and there are a lot of people who just see this as yet another place for him to promote himself. It's great he's got that stuff going on, but people don't want to sit and read Luda news everyday, they can open up a magazine and do that. Obviously he can't write this blog everyday so it's better to let the users write it. Just so you know, Tunecore.com may charge you $45.00 to distribute your album, but you know what? You get to keep 100% of your profits from all of the stores it distributes to (and it's a lot of stores). They don't take a dime from your sales, it goes directly to you and your music ends up in ALL of the major digital distributors here in the US as well as overseas. Also sites like Myxer.com allow you to setup your ringtones, you don't need to go through another company to do that. The main point I was trying to make is that you people can do this stuff directly themselves, they get their ringtones out there themselves. You can setup a free account on Kyte, create a channel, upload videos and put the widget directly on your MySpace and have your fans chat right within it and build a fanbase through there. You can try to portray yourselves as "not charging", but you're going to take a % somewhere and I just think people should know about other options out there that may be better and that may give th
